Heaton Park Synagogue Attack: One Victim Appears to Have Been Fired Upon by Officers
During a tragic development, one of the victims lost at the Heaton Park synagogue attack is believed to have been shot dead by law enforcement personnel.
Police Announcement Confirms Firearm Injury
The chief constable from the local force announced that the Home Office pathologist has initially concluded the man succumbed to a gunshot wound.
“We sought guidance overnight from forensic specialists ahead of detailed autopsies scheduled for later today. The Home Office pathologist indicated that he has provisionally determined one of the deceased victims likely sustained a wound matching a gunshot injury.”
Attacker Information
The suspect, Jihad al-Shamie, was not carrying a gun, and the only shots fired were by authorized firearms personnel on site.
It is believed the deceased was part of the group behind the synagogue door seeking to prevent the assailant from gaining entry.
Outcome of Intervention
“Thus, it appears pending additional analysis, this injury was unfortunately incurred as a unintended and heartbreaking result of the urgently required action employed by our personnel to bring this vicious attack to an end.”
Names Released
Both individuals who lost their lives during the synagogue incident located in Manchester earlier this week had been named as Adrian Daulby, aged 53 and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.
These individuals lost their lives when a car was used to crash through the property of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, before the attacker targeted attendees in a six-minute rampage that concluded after police with firearms shot at him twice, killing him near the synagogue entrance.
Further Harm
Three more people sustained major injuries in the violent act on Yom Kippur, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish year.
The chief constable added, “We have also been advised that one of the three victims now hospitalized has also suffered a gunshot wound, which is mercifully not life threatening. It is believed the two individuals were close together behind the synagogue door, as worshippers acted bravely to stop the assailant from getting inside.”

“We extend our condolences are directed toward the affected relatives, and the wider community, touched by this incident across Greater Manchester and beyond. Specialist officers are offering aid and assistance for all of those directly affected, including our brave first responders.”
Attacker Profile
Police named the attacker as Shamie, thirty-five, a UK national of Syrian descent.
Local law enforcement said that three additional individuals – two male suspects and a woman in her 60s – had been detained “for alleged involvement in planning of acts of terrorism”.
