Marina Bay Street Circuit
3-5 October will see the main event starting at 1pm BST on race day.
Real-time updates streamed on radio channels and official website.
FP1 Results Overview
Aston Martin's Spanish veteran set the pace ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and reigning champion in first practice for the Marina Bay race.
McLaren's drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris finished the session in mid-table positions.
Piastri was over two tenths quicker than Norris.
Alonso was 0.150secs ahead of Leclerc and 0.276secs quicker than Verstappen.
The Italian squad's British icon was just outside the top three.
Car Performance
Unlikely that Aston Martin will be contenders for pole position.
However, the team are optimistic of a better weekend on a technical venue that is better matched to their vehicle, which runs more competitively when plenty of aerodynamic grip are required.
Veteran racer Alonso is also famous as a street circuit master, and usually excels on the Marina Bay street track.
But he was likely operating with reduced weight or a increased power than his competitors, or both, to set such a quick time.
Session Details
His team-mate Canadian racer was a significant margin behind in the lower order.
He had problems with his cockpit early in the session and was also evaluating experimental parts.
Opening practice in Marina Bay is not reflective of conditions for qualifying and race as it is conducted in afternoon sun in the daytime, while grid-deciding session and the grand prix are staged at night.
Points Situation
The McLaren driver is ahead of Norris by a solid margin with remaining rounds ahead entering the weekend in the Lion City.
The Woking-based team are in position to secure the team title on Sunday.
The only way they can not tie it up in this race is if the Silver Arrows outscore them by 31 points or the Scuderia manage it by thirty-five.
Competitor Outlook
Red Bull are hopeful of a strong result after Max's wins in Italy and Azerbaijan preceding this weekend.
It was a relief when drizzle coming down ahead of FP1 abated by the time the cars took to the track on a circuit that had remained dry.
Motorsport adviser the Austrian commented ahead of practice that they wanted a dry hour to begin properly on fine-tuning their chassis settings for the event.
