American Forces Targeted a 'Major Facility' in Venezuela, Trump Claimed Lacking Offering Specifics.

Former President Trump has claimed that American military assets struck a "large facility" in the South American country last week. But, the former president withheld information about the exact nature or site of the strike, and there has been no further comment from his team.

Unspecific Comments Made In a Talk Show

"We just eliminated – I'm not sure if you read – they have a large facility, where the vessels originate. The other night, we took it out. So we targeted them with significant force," Trump reportedly said to Republican donor and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Significance of a Confirmed Strike

Should a American military action is verified, it would constitute the initial attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense initiated a increase of US military presence in the Caribbean region to interdict drug traffickers that the Trump administration alleges operate under the authority of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The initial objective of the military buildup has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at stopping the country's oil exports.

Online Video and Administration Statements

Trump has for weeks stated that American military units are ready to expand the operations by hitting targets within Venezuela, a tactic that would in theory require legislative authorization.

Online video shared on social media on 24 December appeared to show an explosion reportedly from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the footage or the facility has not been independently verified.

An administration official allegedly told a news network that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Posture

The Caracas administration has not commented on the alleged strike the former president referenced. Additionally, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela regarding it.

The buildup of American forces in the region – a posture some have called a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the largest maritime enforcement action of the Trump era.

Sources have avoided from calling the operation as a blockade, but have acknowledged that around 15,000 troops are deployed across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to implement current sanctions.
